The Bullying Internet Moderator In China
[info]askchina
A mere mention of China's internet most Westerners would think of China's hackers who made CNN's website collapsed last year because of CNN's biased report about Tibet. Though these hackers are not well-equiped, they so numerous that it is enough to make any website fall down in one second. Actually the really formidable are not these hackers. They are bullying Internet Moderators!

The rights these moderators have exceeds that of president of United States. They can delete any blog, any photo, any comment, even delete your account and sealed your IP address. As to what should be deleted and what can be kept, all at their disposal. There is no standard. If your contents don't appeal to their eyes, deletion is a must. For a same blog different webmasters view it in  different ways. Whether it deleted or kept depends on who review it.  For an example, the photo of Obamao Shirt is presented in Chinadaily headline. But if you post it in other websites or forums it will be surely deleted by these bullying webmasters who think it is insult to great leader Chairman Mao, or they think it will make offence to the audting officials and possibly close their websites.

Ironically when something is deleted the China's netizen will call it being harmonized. Actually these moderators are not making the internet world more harmonious. Instead they cause much more dissatification among the netizens and  block the free exhange of information. But they are so strong! They are presidents! They send you  to  Afghanistan to fight against Taliban, who can say"NO"!

Left: Runner Fan    Right: Sister Lotus

Thundering is a very hot net-word in China. It does not relates to any thunder at all. But means someone's words or behaviour is so abnormal that the common people can't understand and accept it. It likes thunder falls on us and get us surprised. The people who involved is called Thunder Man.

In the past decade there sprung up a lot of Thunder Man in China. Such as Sister Lotus(who is quite narcissistic  and always poses S shape), Runner Fan(was widely condemned for running out of the classroom before his students in the May 12 earthquake, 2008), Tiger Zhou(who claimed that he took the photo of real South China Tiger), etc.

In memory of these Thunder Men a Thundering park will be built in Zurong Village, Longmen Town, Leizhou City, Guangdong Province. In this park there will be a lot of statue of Thunder Men. This will be China's first Net-Culture Statue Park.

In above photo the left is statue of Runner Fan and the right is Sister Lotus

The change of title in China.
[info]askchina
China is a state of etiquette. Whenever you meet a person you should call his or her title first instead of his or her name directly. In the past century, there was profound change in China, so did the title.

Before year 1949, a man was called Mr and a woman was called Madam or Miss. When Mr or Madam was called, it showed more or less of  respect.  Only you were rich or in a high official position could Mr or Madam was called.  It reflected the class difference. After the emancipation and the founding of P.R.C such tiles were repealled.  People replace these title with "comrade".

The "comrade" means brotherhood. It relates to revolutionary time. In that hard time when a comrade was called, one was very excited and his eyes must be full of tears. Nobody can imagine that feeling now, especially the Western can't understand. But it was there!  From year 1949 to 1978 comrade was widely called, whether a man or a woman, both were called "comrade". It was quite simple and pure feeling. All minds are not so sophisticated as that of our times.

After the opening-up and reform in year 1978 the "comrade" was gradually out of use. A lot of private companies and workshop sprung up, which made a lot of bosses. Those bosses had a lot of money and owned a lot of resources. It was not easy to be rich in a quite poor land. So these bosses were full of glories. Everybody admired "boss" and wanted to be a "boss".  So whenever a people was greeted "boss" was called first. For example, boss Li, boss Hu, boss Zhang, etc.  However these bosses were not so honest. Most of them tried to  trying to get round the tax law and made fake products, which damaged "boss" image greatly.

By the year around 1988, a fresh air was blew in from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Its movies of martial arts and love stories flickered in the TV screens. Every Chinese enjoyed such well-devised movies and admired the hero or heroine in the film. "Mr" and "Miss" came back to people's life again. However "Mr" and "Miss" have new meaning. It meaned modern and fashion. "Mr" means a fat cat, "Miss" means a girl undertaking pornographic activities. So "Miss" was avoided to be called.

In the new 21st century the film and TV are so much developed that everybody want to be a actor and actress. To be a actor or actress means that one day you will be a movie star. Most young Chinese became star in one night through this fast channel. However to be a star is not so easy. Besides your personal hard-working, a good teacher is must. I want to bring you to note this teacher is not a real teacher, this teacher must be a famous movie director or a boss who is very rich and willing to advertise you. When you have such a teacher then the star dream will become true in one night. Then the Chinese title changed again, all people are called "teacher".

China is so great land. People's titles are also so great. It changes fast and nobody can apprehend  its step. When one day you also don't know who yourself are!
